ajay devgn, singham again,

Ajay Devgn had several releases in 2024 including his much-anticipated franchise Singham Again. The film released on Diwali and was a part of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. However, Singham Again underperformed at the box office as it failed to pack a punch. In a recent interaction now, Ajay Devgn admits going wrong with the sequel and why it tanked.

Ajay Devgn on Singham Again failure

Ajay, who recently attended the Zee Real Heroes Awards 2025, was asked about his character not being as rugged and raw as he was in the previous instalments. He reacted to it by saying, “I think yeh reaction mujhe kaafi logon se aaya. Toh aage dhyaan rakhenge ki woh jo Singham ka feel tha – ghus ghus ke maarne ka – woh aage zaroor rahega (I think I received this feedback from many people. So, going forward, we will make sure that the essence of Singham — the intense, in-your-face action — will definitely be present in the future).”

Singham Again is the fifth installment in Rohit Shetty’s Cop Universe after Ajay Devgn’s Singham (2011) and Singham Returns (2014), Ranveer Singh’s Simmba (2018), and Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi (2021). Made in around Rs 350 crore, Singham Again only earned Rs 248 crore in India and grossed Rs 375 crore worldwide. It had an ensemble cast including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ranveer Singh, Tiger Shroff, Deepika Padukone, and a Salman Khan cameo.

For those unversed, Singham Again clashed with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 at the box office. Kartik Aaryan and Anees Bazmee’s horror comedy had earned Rs 260 crore net and grossed Rs 390 crore at the global box office.

On the work front for Ajay Devgn, he has interesting slate of seuels coming up. His upcoming films include Raid 2, De De Pyaar De 2, and Son of Sardaar 2. He will also shoot for the latest instalment of Dhamaal this year, while scripting of Drishyam 3, Shaitaan 2 and Golmaal 5 is in process.
